Process
1.DESIGN
Once I receive an email enquiry for a bespoke piece, the first step is to discuss design and materials. If you already have a clear idea in mind, that's great - but if not, don’t worry. We can spend time sharing ideas and photos until you feel confident about the direction of your piece.
After settling on a concept, I’ll provide a quote. A deposit will be required before moving on to the next stage.
You’re welcome to browse the archive page, which showcases a selection of past designs - this can be a great source of inspiration and a useful starting point.
2. SOURCING
Next, I’ll begin sourcing any materials required to bring your design to life.
Gemstones are sourced through my trusted suppliers across Aotearoa, Australia, and Asia. If we’re re-purposing jewellery you already own, I’ll provide an address for securely sending these materials.
3. CARVING
Each piece is hand-carved in wax before being cast in the chosen metal. This is a responsive and intuitive process - rather than working from strict drawings, I tend to shape the wax organically, refining it until the form feels balanced. (Occasionally, drawings may be used during the design phase.)
Once the carving is complete, I’ll send photos for your approval. This is the best time to request any design adjustments.
4. CASTING
The wax carving is sent to my foundry in Tāmaki Makaurau, where it's cast using the traditional lost wax technique.
Please note: casting can take up to 15 working days from the date it arrives at the foundry.
5. FINISHING + GEMSTONE SETTING
Once the cast piece is returned, I begin the finishing process and set any gemstones. Most stones are set in my studio, but for particularly complex settings, I work with a few skilled diamond setters based in the Wairarapa or Tāmaki Makaurau.
6. GOLD PLATING
If your piece includes gold plating, this is either done in my studio or by professional platers based in Ōtautahi. A two-micron coating is applied for durability.
Please note: plating can take up to 15 working days from arrival at the platers.
7. SHIPPING
Once complete, your jewellery is carefully packaged in a custom-designed box, made to keep your piece safe both during transit and when it's not being worn.
Orders are shipped in 100% recycled courier bags sourced from a trusted New Zealand.
