Jewellery Care
Each piece of jewellery is delicate and needs to be looked after with care.
Below are tips on how to help your jewellery last a lifetime.
Always protect your jewellery from sharp blows or drops, this may cause gemstones to come loose or get chipped and the metal to become scratched or misshapen.
Over ear headphones can cause stress and damage your earrings.
Avoid soaps, detergents, chemical, perfumes and heat.
Avoid swimming, showering or bathing with your jewellery.
Metal will tarnish naturally and can be cleaned in a few ways
- Polishing cloths
- Solutions that are specifically formulated for this purpose
- A gentle scrub with a soft tooth brush, warm water and a small amount of baking soda.
- Jewellery chain stores will often offer free cleaning.
Make sure to store your jewellery in a safe, soft place - preferably air tight.
Chains and sleepers are very delicate and need to be treated with a lot of care.
Remove the charm from your sleepers when not being worn.
Avoid sleeping in your jewellery.
GOLD PLATE
Gold plated jewellery has a 2 micron layer of gold over a sterling silver base. This is done by a trusted business based in Aotearoa.
Make sure to store in a safe place away from other objects which could cause scratching and damage.
I offer a re-plating service on all my jewellery for a small fee.
Solid gold is recommended for jewellery that is worn on a daily basis, as gold plate does wear over time. This can be done through a custom order.
